Who We Serve

We serve children, parents, and child care providers and ground our policy advocacy in their real and practical needs.

Legal aid lawyers, policymakers and advocates as well as families and providers, rely on our straightforward legal answers and advice, and to help shape fairer and more equitable child care policies.

For example, in 2016 California lawmakers raised the minimum wage so that people would be paid more fairly for their work. But the new law unintentionally caused many families to become ineligible for affordable child care.

We showed lawmakers how to align child care policy with rising wages and the cost of living.

The solution we crafted benefited parents – who could keep their children in child care and focus on working to improve their families’ prospects – and child care providers who could rely on steady enrollment.
